The ITX Commitment Conversation

There are many moments in life when we take steps to formally bond with something we care about. It could be marriage, the adoption of a child or pet, buying a house or renting an apartment, or accepting a new position in a company. Each time we make a commitment we’re taking on a responsibility and making a promise.

At ITX we call this formal moment in the journey the “Commitment Conversation.” It’s an important next step before agreeing to work together because it reinforces and outlines, for both parties, our set of promises and expectations to each other. ITX is with you in every step of the way – we now view you as part of our community from the day we began speaking. We don’t take your decision to continue your career journey with ITX for granted and so we hold a version of this conversation annually as well.

Here’s an idea of the promises we make to each other in the Commitment Conversation:

I promise to provide a great place to work. Communication throughout your first year, and every year after that, is paramount. Whether that feedback is positive or meant to address concerns, it is my job as your manager to keep in regular contact with you and see that you grow professionally in our shared vision for your personal goals.

Likewise, you promise that you will be your honest and authentic self with me and you’ll live by the ITX mission, vision, and values. Together, we will mutually promise to treat each other with respect and celebrate all your successes with the ITX teams. In other words, we’re partners.

The Commitment Conversation is familiar to everyone at ITX.

No one is exempt from having the Commitment Conversation, and everyone understands and lives by the same promises. There are no variations or different ideas about the commitment we are making to each other – what you have read above is understood and applied by everyone at ITX.

What’s next.

I hope this explanation of our next step, our first Commitment Conversation, gives you an even better sense of what it’s like to be part of the ITX community and team. We look forward to discussing this in further detail with you and answering any of your concerns and questions in our next meeting.
